📜 Welcome to Page 1 – The History of AI
Before diving deeper into GPT, let’s look back at the fascinating journey of Artificial Intelligence. AI didn’t just appear overnight — it evolved through decades of innovation, imagination, and breakthroughs.
🧠 The Origins of AI
- 1950s: Alan Turing proposed the idea of thinking machines. He introduced the famous Turing Test.
- 1956: The term "Artificial Intelligence" was coined at the Dartmouth Conference by John McCarthy — often called the "Father of AI".
- 1960s–70s: Early AI focused on solving logic problems and playing games like chess.
📉 AI Winters – Setbacks Along the Way
AI development faced several challenges due to limited computing power, high expectations, and lack of data. This led to two major "AI winters" where funding and interest dropped:
- 🔹 First AI Winter (1974–1980) – Slow progress & unmet promises
- 🔹 Second AI Winter (1987–1993) – Expert systems failed to scale
🚀 Rise of Modern AI
- 2010s: Advances in machine learning, deep learning, and big data revived AI.
- 2012: Breakthrough in image recognition using deep neural networks (AlexNet).
- 2018: OpenAI released GPT-1 — the start of the Generative Pre-trained Transformer models.
📈 GPT and the Generative AI Boom
From 2018 onward, GPT models changed the game:
- 🧠 GPT-2 (2019): Bigger, smarter, more capable
- 🧠 GPT-3 (2020): 175 billion parameters – shockingly powerful
- 🧠 ChatGPT (2022): Friendly chat interface powered by GPT
- 🧠 GPT-4 and GPT-4o (2023–2024): Multimodal, can understand images, audio, and more
🔚 From Dreams to Reality
AI has grown from a science fiction idea to a tool used daily by millions. We’re living in a new AI era — and this course will help you make the most of it!
