Vada Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup urad dal (black gram lentils)
- 2-3 green chilies, chopped
- 1 inch piece of ginger, chopped
- A handful of curry leaves, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns, crushed
- 1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves
- 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions:
- Wash and soak urad dal in water for 4-5 hours or overnight.
- Drain the water and grind urad dal into a smooth paste using minimal water.
- Transfer the dal paste to a mixing bowl.
- Add chopped green chilies, ginger, curry leaves, cumin seeds, crushed black peppercorns, chopped coriander leaves, chopped onion, and salt to the bowl.
- Mix everything well to form a thick batter.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
- Take a small portion of the batter and shape it into a round flat vada.
- Gently slide the vada into the hot oil.
- Fry the vadas until they turn golden brown and crispy on all sides.
- Remove the vadas from the oil and drain excess oil on paper towels.
- Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
