Vada Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup urad dal (black gram lentils)
  • 2-3 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 inch piece of ginger, chopped
  • A handful of curry leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns, crushed
  • 1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

  1. Wash and soak urad dal in water for 4-5 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the water and grind urad dal into a smooth paste using minimal water.
  3. Transfer the dal paste to a mixing bowl.
  4. Add chopped green chilies, ginger, curry leaves, cumin seeds, crushed black peppercorns, chopped coriander leaves, chopped onion, and salt to the bowl.
  5. Mix everything well to form a thick batter.
  6. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  7. Take a small portion of the batter and shape it into a round flat vada.
  8. Gently slide the vada into the hot oil.
  9. Fry the vadas until they turn golden brown and crispy on all sides.
  10. Remove the vadas from the oil and drain excess oil on paper towels.
  11. Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
